Some Fiestaware B1G1 @ Macys.com + $10/$75

Macys.com has some of their Fiesta serving pieces B1G1 through tonight only!  I had been wanting these canisters to match several other Fiesta pieces we have already.  The canisters have a great air tight seal and awesome reviews, so I am excited to start using them for my flour and sugar!   With the sale it makes it cheaper than I’ve seen them in stores.  PLUS I was able to use promo code XJW56A992 for an additional $10 off $75, which essentially gives you free shipping.  If you aren’t looking for Fiesta items then I assume you can use the promo code on other items but you’ll have to try it out to confirm that.

Considering: More Simple Blessings

Hello again!  Nope, haven’t dropped off completely but have been in the midst of celebration and family.  Husband’s family came in from MI for several days to celebrate Christmas with us so there was much fun, laughter, and joy.  After they left I’ve been trying to get the house back in order and into some sort of routine with the kiddos.  It’s always fun to have family, including grandparents and cousins, it just tends to throw things a bit too.  I am overwhelmed by the generosity and giftings from our family and am already enjoying several of my gifts very much.

This time of year also brings our wedding anniversary!  Husband and I will celebrate 5 years of marriage this Friday.  5 years may not be many compared to those of you who have celebrated 25 and many more years of marriage, but to us it’s definitely special.  In many ways it seems like we’re still newlyweds but in other ways it could be our 30th anniversary.  The Lord has blessed me with a man who loves and serves him above all, then me, and our kids.  Exactly the way it should be.  I am so grateful for this blessing in my life.  Husband has been faithful in the good times and the bad.  The first year of marriage was rough as I grieved the unexpected loss of my mother and yet I look back and see Husband was faithfully walking with me even when I tried to push away.

Husband has planned a surprise anniversary outing and we have been blessed by those who love us and will be taking care of Munchkins and Lil Dude while we are away.  So thankful to be loved and served by others in this way.  Being a mom is a huge priority and daily focus in my life but being a wife to my husband should take first place, always.  This is often difficult with little ones but others willingness to care of our kids, it makes easier to have some quality husband and wife time.

With Christmas and our anniversary within a week of each other I find I am amazed by the blessings of family and friends.  Even with all these blessings, ultimately I rest in my salvation through Him, His faithfulness, and His steadfast love.

Nordstrom’s Price Matching!

I wanted to share my recent discovery that Nordstrom’s price matches!  You may have already known this but I was oblivious.  They also offer free shipping and free returns!  Their price matching policy is as follows:

At Nordstrom we are committed to offering you the best possible prices. We will be glad to meet our competitor’s pricing if you ever find an item that we offer, in the same color and size, available from a similar retailer. Please call 1-888-282-6060 to place your order.

Please note that designer goods and cosmetics are not included in this policy. We are unable to match prices from auction and outlet stores or websites, as well as other retailers’ discount promotions, shipping offers and gift card offers.

I actually used live chat instead of calling, the customer service representative was very helpful and price matched two items for me. In my experience, it never hurts to ask!  If one says no, another might say yes.  And even if they do say no, you haven’t lost anything!  Price matching in this case proved helpful for two reasons:  first, one item was on clearance on Target.com but the shipping costs would have cut the savings tremendously since I don’t have a RedCard.   The second item was found on a website I’m not familiar with and honestly didn’t feel comfortable placing an order and providing credit card information.  Since Nordstrom agreed to price match I was able to save on shipping and order from a reputable company!

Thanks, slickdeals!

Sunday Exhortations: Advent Calendar and readings

I had been searching for about a year off and on for an advent calendar.  When I was growing up my mom always bought the cardboard ones with the little doors that would open to show a new character to the nativity.  I like those but it gets difficult to find a new one each year that I liked and I didn’t want to reuse old calendars.  That left me with ones that we could use each year.  There are a myriad of choices and options out there, as I found on Pinterest.  I found several I liked and others I wished I was crafty enough to create.  Then I decided to head over to Etsy one more time in hopes I had missed something the other times I had looked.  I had!  I found The Christmas Nativity Advent Calendar magnetic pattern by Jenn Matthews at “Some Bright Ideas”.

Below you’ll see what I was able to create using her pattern.  Her pattern was complete enough that I could follow it and when I had questions or needed any clarification Jenn was amazing and graciously answered quickly via email.

One of the features I loved about this design was that the pieces adhere magnetically to the background so the kids can choose where the pieces go and it can be different each year.  Well, my type A adult self didn’t anticipate my first born, 3 year old, as noted by the first day when she lined up all the stars in the sky.  The stars have been rearranged a bit but now we have a sheep levitating in the sky with the angels, etc.   As the month has gone on she’s moved pieces, and, honestly, I’ve moved or directed a few.    We’re hoping to remember to take a picture each year at the end to see what the kids have created.  It’s been so fun to watch Munchkins as she is eager to put a new character on the calendar.

To accompany the calendar we’ve also been reading Russ Ramsey’s Behold the Lamb of God.  This is an amazing advent narrative that both Husband and I have been enjoying immensely!  I am not sure that Munchkins is quite ready for it but we continue to include her as we read, you never know what truths they are picking up on as they listen.  Ramsey makes several disclaimers in the preface about what the book is and is not.  Primarily it is “not a substitute for the Bible but rather “a servant of the Bible.”  He does this in a way that I’ve never read and I sincerely appreciate his time, thought, and writing that has helped the story of advent come more alive for me this year.  If you’d like to read a chapter you can do so here at The Rabbit Room.

Do you have an advent tradition with your family?  I’d love to hear about it!  May this advent season bring you wonder and awe of the gift of Christ on our behalf!
