Sunday Exhortations (and Review): Slugs and Bugs & Lullabies

In Husband’s words,  Andrew Peterson and Randall Goodgame are “lyrical geniuses”!   When searching for kids music you can come across plenty of silly songs and then you can also find songs that will point your kids to Christ.  We love is how Peterson and Goodgame have mastered both in Slugs and Bugs & Lullabies.  These songs are fun and full of truth that remind our children (and ourselves) of our creator and how awesome He is!

Slugs and Bugs’ Mission Statement:

You could say our mission is to write great, fun songs that celebrate the truth, beauty, freedom, and love of silliness that is so characteristic of children. But you could also say that we aim to write great, fun songs that help parents to remember how to be kids.

Our small hope is that kids will love the music and parents will too.  Our grand hope is that Slugs & Bugs kids would one day grow up and find it natural to remember Jesus in their homework, in their work, in their friendships and even in the parenting of our grandkids.

It is really quite difficult to express in words just how we love this fantastic collection of songs.  You can go to the Slugs and Bugs site here and listen to the songs in the top right corner to get a taste.  You can also enjoy two of the music videos they’ve created below.

Tractor, Tractor has become a family favorite.  I warn you, be prepared to at least crack a smile at the silly songs.  Listen to the words, soak in the truths about Christ being Lord of all and simply enjoy.  So often Christians can get an image of those folks who don’t have any fun.  Slugs and Bugs will remind the young and old that their is JOY in our salvation!

The album concludes with lullabies which are not only sweet but also capture the beauty of the promises and blessings bestowed on us in the Word.  Wow.  Again, all there really is to do is simply be humbled and thankful for artists who are willing to use their talents to glorify God with both the silly and the serious.

Slugs and Bugs & Lullabies is the first of three albums.  There is also a Christmas Album (next on my list!) and the recently released “Slugs and Bugs: Under Where?”  You can listen to and download 5 of the songs from the new album at NoiseTrade here.

If you’ve been looking for music for your children (or yourself for that matter!) that is fun, full of truth, with great lyrics, our family highly recommends checking out the Slugs and Bugs!
